1441 “Only God forgives sins“.

 Since he is the Son of God, Jesus says of himself, "The Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins" and exercises this divine power:

 "Your sins are forgiven." 

Further, by virtue of his divine authority he gives this power to men to exercise in his name”

[See above John 20:20-23, and this:  Matt. 16: 18-19] “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. 

 I [Jesus] will give you {Peter} [SINGULAR]  the keys of the kingdom of heaven,

 and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." And passed to other Apostles and therefore the CC in Matt. 18:18 “Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
